Role Overview

The Production & Technical Engineer is responsible for coordinating manufacturing activities through third-party toll manufacturers whilst ensuring products are produced safely, efficiently, on time, and to the required quality standards.

The role acts as the key liaison between manufacturing partners, suppliers, customers, sales teams, quality functions, and the UK Head Office. The successful candidate will support production planning, supply chain management, quality assurance activities, and new product implementation.


Key Responsibilities

Production & Supplier Management

  • Manage day-to-day relationships with third-party toll manufacturers.
  • Monitor production schedules to ensure customer demand and business requirements are met.
  • Coordinate production activities to achieve agreed delivery, cost, and quality targets.
  • Support the introduction and implementation of new products into manufacture.
  • Work closely with toll manufacturers to improve productivity, efficiency, and operational performance.

Supply Chain & Inventory Management

  • Plan raw material requirements and coordinate purchasing activities with domestic and international suppliers.
  • Monitor inventory levels and maintain stock within agreed targets at manufacturing and distribution locations.
  • Resolve material availability issues and supplier delivery concerns.
  • Support demand planning and forecasting activities.

Quality Assurance

  • Monitor quality performance at toll manufacturing facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with company quality procedures and ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Participate in supplier audits and support corrective and preventive action activities.
  • Assist in investigating customer complaints and implementing corrective actions.
  • Analyse quality data and report trends, issues, and improvement opportunities.

Communication & Reporting

  • Maintain regular communication with sales, supply chain, quality, and technical teams.
  • Prepare and submit production, inventory, and quality reports to the UK Head Office.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across international group locations.
  • Support customer visits and site audits when required.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Production planning and manufacturing operations.
  • Minimum 5 years experience within refractory materials manufacturing sectors.
  • Supply chain and inventory management.
  • Quality control and quality assurance systems.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
  • Supplier and contractor management.
  • Problem-solving and root cause analysis.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

Desirable

  • Experience working with third-party or contract manufacturers.
  • Internal auditor experience.
  • Exposure to international supply chains.

 

Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related discipline.

Desirable

  • ISO 9001 Internal Auditor qualification.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement training.
