The Louise Smalley Challenge Walk is a 40-mile (and a bit) award-winning challenge walk that raises funds for local charities and good causes. Organised by the close-knit community of Whitwell in North Derbyshire, the walk is held in honour of Louise Smalley, who tragically passed away at a very young age after a battle with illness. Since its inception, the annual event has raised over £280,000 for a wide range of charitable organisations, making a significant impact in the region.
This year, the nominated charity to receive the donations from the walk was Just Good Friends, an organisation that supports those who are socially isolated. A total of 115 people participated, including Michael Nesham from the production admin team at our Clowne branch. The walk began at 4am, with participants determined to raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause. After hours of dedication, the last walkers returned around 7pm, and the event successfully raised an impressive £16,128.78.
The Louise Smalley Challenge continues to inspire people year after year, bringing the community together for a shared purpose of making a difference in the lives of those in need.
