Capital Refractories, in partnership with United Way Chennai, has delivered meaningful, targeted support to improve the lives of adults and children with disabilities during the 2025–2026 programme. Their work focused on removing key barriers to independence by providing 25 carefully selected individuals with upgraded, high-quality wheelchairs. This initiative addressed not only physical mobility challenges but also wider social issues such as limited access to employment, isolation, and reduced participation in community life. Through careful assessment, tailored equipment, and ongoing support, the project has helped create more inclusive opportunities, aligning with global goals around reduced inequality, sustainable communities, and access to decent work.
The impact of this work is clearly seen in the lives of beneficiaries, where increased mobility has led to greater independence, improved mental wellbeing, and enhanced economic stability. Individuals who were previously confined or heavily reliant on family support are now able to move freely, pursue employment, and engage more actively in daily life. In several cases, this has strengthened family resilience, reduced caregiving pressures, and enabled individuals to sustain or grow small businesses. Overall, the collaboration between Capital Refractories and United Way Chennai demonstrates how practical, well-executed interventions can restore dignity, unlock potential, and deliver lasting social impact.
